Wildlife

Some photos from my folks’ cabin*.
There has been an outbreak of hummingbirds – there are at least a dozen (the little suckers are hard to count, being somewhat averse to holding still) zooming about the cabin from sunrise to sunset.

And there were some small, apelike creatures, also averse to holding still:

And a goldfinch, who had [...]

Pictures Later

I was up early and in early, so instead of coming in to face the list of tasks which is currently sitting at 21 (2 due today, 5 due tomorrow, think I’ll make it? That’s right!) I took the tripod and went for a walk along the waterfront.
I work at the edge of the poorest [...]

1967 and a Transistor Radio

I remember stopping in New Westminster in about 1967 or 68.
We moved to Delta in 1967. My dad built a house there. The memories have faded now: I remember firecrackers from the corner store, the large number of vacant lots, the big open field the other side of the Welker’s. I remember the tiles on [...]

Enough Recession Talk

Yeah, so while I’m not thinking of economic downturns and recessions and retirement, I’ll just think of something else.
Better yet, I’ll think of something elser, as HouseApe 3.0 used to say.

I’ve been thinking of writing a novel that’s like a road movie with Bob and Bing, except that it’s the road to Hell! Plus there [...]

Zen Travel, Part the Fourth

I don’t know how long I’ll continue doing this. Y’all might be thoroughly sick of this by now.
Ah, well, my blog, my rules blah de blah…
The morning of day 2, which was really the first full day of Zen Trek ‘08. Call me a sap, or a romantic, or just realistic, but I feel that [...]

Zen Travel, Part the Third

I will include a few photos with this one.
This is the view from out our window in the hotel we stayed at in Aberdeen, which is a city that looks like it is trying to pick things up a bit. It is a mill town, similar to many that I am familiar with, and such [...]

Brief Summer Road Trip, Part the Second

There will a Part the Third, for sure, because I haven’t unloaded the 400+ images we took. Hell, it was two cameras, it might be more than 500.
We used to call this Rambling, Chris and I, but I think I’m going to rename it to Zen Travel. It is travel in which you take things [...]

There Are No Words

I was at a memorial service on Saturday at a not inexpensive seniors condo. The service was held in the lounge – a bright, airy, large room with comfy furniture, a well stocked bar, giant TV, and the worst artwork I’ve seen … well, ever. Most of it was vaguely tropical, with mis-shapen palm trees [...]

Monday Morning Notes

The Chaputino Death Watch referred to earlier (sorry, no link at the moment) continues. I returned home last night to find him still alive. He seems to be losing hair now, and muscle mass. He may have gerbil cancer or something.
The new ferry, the Coastal Renaissance, is fabulous. The last new ferries were the fast [...]
