Shotgunning

If you look at the little calendar on the upper left (this post will become obsolete if I move the calendar, obviously, so if you’re reading this in the future and it isn’t there, relax) you’ll see a sort of shotgun effect, where most of the days of the month are bold because they have [...]

A Medical Story

Doug Hoffman is running a contest. All I have to do to enter is to relate some sort of medical story. As luck would have it, I have such a story to relate.
About three years ago, I was 42 and had reached the conclusion that I was not going to want any more children. I [...]

A new theme.
I might change the colours, but I like this theme.

Iraq, and the Denial of Evident Truth

I’ve been around for a while now. I’ve seen things go through the cycle a few times.
In the 1980s, we had a premier (he’s kind of like the president, sort of) named Bill Vander Zalm who had trouble keeping his private life and business separate from his public life and business. I don’t think anyone [...]

I’ve been looking for something that organizes the link categories in the sidebar, but haven’t found it yet. Right now I’m using an ugly sort of scheme that involves putting a letter at the front so that they sort in alphabetical order.

Quarter Finals

I submitted a story to the Writers of the Future contest (for the cost of a stamp, an envelope, and some paper, why not?) and got the email back yesterday. The story (”Naked in the Glow of Artemis”) made it to the quarter-finals, which I presume is the cut below the cut below the final [...]

Underrated Albums

Installment #1
Emotional Rescue The Rolling Stones It’s no secret that I love these guys. You are free to take this probably biased review of an album released long ago with a grain of salt1.
Keith’s rhythm guitar work is mostly spare, lyrical, with a definite jazz tone. Dada duh, dada duh, dada duh. As with the [...]

Liveblogging the Idols

Liveblogging the idols – part, what is it, seven?
Mandisa – man oh man. Can this girl get any better? She knocked that thing out. She blew the opening act jitters out of the fucking water. The game has changed, and only a fool would bet against this girl being one of the final two.
Bucky [...]
