Happiness

Christine pointed me to Gretchen Rubin’s Happiness Project blog.
The current post is on Entering Into the Spirit of the Season.
I used to really love the Christmas season, and that remembered love sticks with me. I look forward to Christmas every year.
But it hasn’t been a joyous occasion for me for years. Life has conspired to [...]

Threes

This required some fairly extensive post-processing. It’s taken from the RAW image. I still haven’t figured out how to remove camera noise without introducing banding, so this has more noise than I’d like. I ramped up the saturation and the altered the contrast dramatically. I cropped to remove some clutter along the bottom edge. I [...]

Your Philosophy Lesson For Today

I’ve never encountered anĀ  Objectivist who wasn’t a self-absorbed turdwad.
In my net life (which is going on close to twenty years now, holy shit), I have encountered two good philosophies:

Don’t be an asshole. Erin O’Brien.
Don’t be a dick. Wil Wheaton.

1967 and a Transistor Radio

I remember stopping in New Westminster in about 1967 or 68.
We moved to Delta in 1967. My dad built a house there. The memories have faded now: I remember firecrackers from the corner store, the large number of vacant lots, the big open field the other side of the Welker’s. I remember the tiles on [...]

On Auto Bailouts

All of my adult life, it seems, I’ve been hearing about Detroit needing bailout money. They need protection from foreign cars, they say. ‘Buy American’, they say, which often means ‘Buy Canadian’ because many American cars have been made over the border in Southern Ontario.
It really is a global economy. When competition comes in, and [...]

Christine

I spent some time in post-processing today. These were shot in June, I think. At least that’s the date on the folder.
I amped up the contrast and sharpened this. Didn’t do any other adjustments. I was looking at it wondering why my sharpening had caused artifacts, and then I remembered that I had shot all [...]

But Of Course!

There are some people who are insecure (this should not be news to anybody) and who employ tricks and artifices to inflate themselves.
One of these subterfuges involves requesting an explanation for something, and then at the end saying But of course! Didn’t you know that? as if they knew whatever it was you just explained, [...]
